Kat has been coaching volleyball for over 10 years, with experience at the Middle School, Junior High and Senior High School levels. She has also coached at the club, Team BC and post-secondary levels.

Coaching Philosophy

Kat's coaching philosophy is centered on building good humans while developing strong athletes. She believes sport is a vehicle for teaching character, discipline, resilience, leadership and teamwork—lessons that extend far beyond the volleyball court.

She expects athletes to embrace a strong work ethic and understand that consistent effort and preparation are essential to growth. She believes in “we before me”—putting the team first, supporting teammates and recognizing that success is greater when achieved together.

Kat also believes that struggle and failure are important parts of development. Challenges build resilience, and mistakes provide opportunities to learn, grow and come back stronger. Ultimately, success is measured not only by what is accomplished, but by who athletes become along the way.

Coaching Experience

With 15 years of coaching experience, Jason has coached athletes across all levels of volleyball, including grassroots, school, club and college programs.

This broad experience has allowed him to work with athletes at different stages of development while helping them build confidence, skills and a strong understanding of the game.

Coaching Philosophy

Jason's coaching philosophy is focused on developing confident, disciplined and well-rounded athletes. He believes in creating a positive and competitive environment where athletes are challenged to work hard, learn from their experiences, support their teammates and continually strive to become better players and people.

Coaching Experience

Coach Hendrik VanRyk is a passionate coach focused on developing athletes through skill development, teamwork, discipline, and confidence. He believes in building strong fundamentals, creating a positive team environment, and helping athletes grow both on and off the court.

• Coaching for over 20 years at both high school and club level
• Several provincial championships and top 5 finishes at nationals
• Level 3 referee, which lends itself to understanding the game from the official side

Coaching Experience

With 27 years of volleyball coaching experience, including 12 years coaching in Japan, Tyler has coached at a wide range of levels and programs. His experience includes Junior High School, High School, Club 13U–18U, Beach Volleyball, West Coast Cup, BC Summer Games, Team BC and Team BC Beach.

• 16U National Championship Silver Medal – Division 1/Tier 1

Tyler most recently led his team to back-to-back EVAA Championships (AAAA Senior Girls), followed by a 4th-place finish at the AAAA Senior Girls Provincial Championship—the highest finish in the 34-year history of the school.

Coaching Philosophy

Tyler's coaching philosophy goes beyond developing volleyball skills. He is passionate about using the sport to teach life skills, personal excellence, accountability, resilience, commitment, dedication and the importance of working together toward a common goal.

He believes in challenging athletes and coaches to strive for excellence, learn from adversity and understand that achieving meaningful goals often requires commitment, sacrifice and a willingness to put the team first.

Coaching Experience

With 30 years of certified volleyball coaching experience, including A and AA high school volleyball, Mary Joan has coached teams to medal finishes at elite tournaments and Provincials, Zone Championships and a Provincial Championship banner.

She is entering her 10th year with Fraser Valley Volleyball Club, specializing in competitive girls volleyball, athlete development, technical and tactical growth, leadership, resilience and team culture.

Mary Joan also served five years on the Team BC Red & Blue coaching staff, including top-five Canada Cup finishes and a Baden Cup Championship, and continues to contribute to Team BC tryouts and evaluations.

The greatest reward of coaching is the lasting relationships built with athletes and families. Mary Joan is grateful to continue celebrating former athletes as they pursue opportunities at the provincial, national and international levels and reach important milestones beyond volleyball.

Coaching Experience

Coach John is entering his second year as a head coach with Fraser Valley Volleyball Club, having coached the 13U Boys program for the past season. His coaching focus is on building strong fundamental skills, developing confidence, and creating a team culture that embraces competition and continuous improvement.

He enjoys seeing players grow both on and off the court as they develop their skills and love for the game.

Playing Background

David Vander Ende brings a strong playing background and a passion for athlete development to the FVVC 14U Boys program. David played with Fraser Valley Volleyball Club from 2004–2006 at the 16U and 18U levels. He went on to represent Team BC in Grade 10 and Grade 12 before playing two seasons of university volleyball with the Trinity Western University men's team.

Coaching Experience

David's coaching experience includes one season as an Assistant Coach with Raincity Volleyball Club's 15U Girls team, where he gained valuable experience working with athletes on skill development, game understanding, and team play.

Coaching Philosophy

As a coach, David believes in creating a focused and competitive environment where athletes are motivated to improve, accountable to one another, and committed to competing together. He believes this approach fosters development and success both individually and as a team.

A former FVVC athlete himself, David is excited to return to the club and give back to the program while helping develop the next generation of Fraser Valley volleyball athletes.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching volleyball for 26 years, primarily working with Senior Boys Volleyball since 2001. My coaching experience also includes three years with Team BC, coaching both U16 Boys and U18 Girls.

I currently serve as the Volleyball Director at MEI Schools and Head Coach of the Senior Boys program at MEI. I have also worked as the Technical Director of Coaching Development for Campbell River Crush, supporting coaches and athlete development.

Top 3 Coaching Accomplishments

• Gold Medal – 2024 U15 Canadian Nationals, Division 1/Tier 1
• FVVC Provincial Gold Medals – 2022 and 2024, with a Bronze Medal in 2025
• BCSSAA Provincial Junior Boys Gold Medal – 2018 with the MEI Eagles

Additional achievement includes a Bronze Medal at the NTCC Challenge Cup with Team BC U18 Women in 2016.

My coaching philosophy is built around transparency, accountability, and creating a positive team culture. When every athlete understands their role, responsibilities, and expectations, it creates trust, confidence, and a stronger team environment.

I believe that when athletes know their job and understand how they contribute to the team, it breeds success, positivity, and a true sense of team.

Coaching Experience

Lucas has been coaching volleyball since Grade 11, with the past three seasons spent with Seaside Volleyball Club. He began with Seaside as an Assistant Coach before moving into the Head Coach role for the past two seasons, primarily working with the boys program.

• Bronze Medal – BC Summer Games with the Zone 4 Boys
• Gold Medal – U16 Boys Nationals in his division with Seaside Volleyball Club

Lucas's coaching philosophy is fresh, relatable and focused on connecting with today's athletes. As a younger coach, he sees his ability to understand and communicate with this generation as a strength.

Ultimately, he wants athletes to feel supported, challenged and understood while creating an environment where they can grow both as volleyball players and as individuals.

Coaching Experience

This is Marco's 12th year coaching volleyball and his third year with FVVC. His coaching experience has primarily been at the club level, working with both boys and girls programs. He has also assisted with the Senior Boys program at GW Graham.

• Maintaining a winning record every season throughout his coaching career

Taking a team of athletes who had never played together before and leading them to a Top 8 finish at the U16 Boys Provincial Championships, Division 1.

Marco's philosophy is simple: nothing is given and everything is earned. He believes in team first, always, and that character will ultimately trump talent.

He believes the greatest growth happens when athletes are pushed outside their comfort zone. Learning how to face challenges, embrace adversity and overcome difficult situations is an essential skill both in volleyball and in life.
