Club Tryouts

Athletes will check in before their scheduled tryout session. A confirmation email should have been received upon registration, and each athlete will receive a number upon arrival.

Following a brief introduction outlining the tryout process, expectations and selection criteria, athletes will participate in volleyball drills and game-based activities.

Athletes will be evaluated in areas including:

• Passing
• Setting
• Serving
• Blocking
• Attacking
• Defense
• Tactical understanding
• Communication and team play
• Overall attitude and behaviour

For athletes 15U and older, position-specific skills will also be assessed, including setters, middles, liberos when applicable, and outside attackers.

Our assessment system considers all areas of evaluation. The Selection Committee reviews the results and overall performance of each athlete to determine team placement.

We understand that many athletes may be attending tryouts with more than one club. Athletes who need to arrive late or leave early because of another club's tryout schedule can be accommodated.

If special circumstances may prevent an athlete from attending both sessions, please note this on the registration form or contact our Club Coordinator at fvvcadmin@gmail.com.

The $45 + GST fee includes both sessions. We strongly recommend attending both sessions whenever possible. Athletes may try out for two age categories but must register separately for each age category.

At the discretion of the Selection Committee, offers may be made to some athletes during or following the first tryout session.

Following tryouts, athletes will generally be notified by email regarding team selection within 48–72 hours.

Once teams are established, athletes and parents will receive information regarding:

• Practice schedules
• Registration and payment
• Tournament schedules
• Team requirements
• Other important season information

Team lists will also be posted on the FVVC website once teams have been finalized. Finalizing teams can take some time as athletes make their commitments and complete signing dates, and the Selection Committee may need additional time to finalize team placements.

FVVC volleyball is primarily tournament-based, rather than organized around a weekly league schedule. The season generally runs from January through May, depending on the age group. Each team's practice and tournament schedule will be established by the coaching staff.

FVVC teams train at a variety of facilities throughout Langley and Abbotsford, including elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and private gym facilities. Practice times and locations vary depending on the team and coaching staff's availability. Specific practice schedules are not finalized at the time of tryouts and will be provided in December.
